Hello. I'm William Crowley, a web developer in San Francisco with over ten years professional experience. Trained Lizard is my freelancing alterego.
Trained Lizard specializes particularly in targeted piecework, modules, and site enhancements both for individuals and for other developers. This enables me both to involve myself in unique and varied projects with unique and varied people, and to, well, uninvolve myself so that I can stay on top of my full-time commitments. The idea behind my Trained Lizard work is to do modest-but-challenging projects and do them really well.
I would love to hear about your project. I can't always accept, but I will always give candid, useful advice.
If you've got a website, you've got a features wishlist. Hire me to knock some out one at a time, while you steer the ship. It's an inexpensive and easy-to-manage way to keep your site evolving.
Leverage the power of your favourite applications in your own site. I believe the best CMS is the constantly updating applications you already use. Make Flickr power your custom gallery. Make Google power your custom calendar. I am familiar with several major (and a few minor) APIs. Just ask.
A pet specialty. I love making WordPress useful to publishers. Today's WordPress can do exactly what you wish it could. Don't settle for hacks and workarounds.
Is your site mobile responsive yet? More and more of your visitors are using mobile devices. I can help make your site platform-proof. (Try shrinking your browser window to see an example solution.)
Like this one. (Or, you know, completely unlike this one.) Getting new clients happily on the web according to their tastes, needs, and preferences is still my favourite project. Time permitting, I can even do some pro bono for worthy causes.
Have you overcommitted? Delegate. Some of my favorite clients are fellow developers. I am fast and affordable enough at my specialties for you to mark my bill up and pass it on at a profit.
These are the core technologies that I prefer to work with nowadays. I'm always happy to candidly discuss my level of expertise in any technology, technique, or platform. I'm not, for a start, a Python, Ruby, or .NET expert, but I would be happy to direct you to some talented folks who are, if that is why you came.
I am currently working on a series of javascript-based online interactives that allow visitors to manipulate and share results and souvenirs from their museum visit.
I designed and built kiosk and mobile sites that allowed visitors to the Choosing To Participate exhibition to share realtime feedback.
I did the backend code for a unique barcode-based coupon generating tool.
If you are here (and you are), please feel free to email me about your project. You don't need a referral or introduction. I can't take every project. And I'm not the best person for every project. But I'll bet I can point you in the right direction.
Typically I like to talk until our mental images match and then charge by the job instead of by the hour. It minimizes surprises. Of course, certain tasks only make sense hourly and I'm open to that as well.
Let's talk about your idea.
